As we reconnect through this summer edition of our newsletter - our first in more than a year - I want to acknowledge what has been a truly dynamic and, at times, tumultuous period for our community and the broader environment in which we operate. The landscape throughout 2025 brought both challenges and change. Through it all, our community has remained resilient, adaptable, and deeply committed to our mission.
Over the past year, we've experienced important transitions, including changes in PAVIR Admin Office staffing, that have shaped how we work and collaborate. While periods of transition can be demanding, they also create new opportunities to strengthen our organization and bring fresh perspectives forward. At the same time, the policy and regulatory environment continues to evolve and demands our collective focus and engagement.
Proposed changes to the OMB Uniform Guidance and ongoing NIH policy updates have introduced new considerations for federal grantmaking, grant submissions, and grant management. These developments carry important implications for compliance, funding, and administrative processes. While the future funding landscape remains difficult to predict, PAVIR has been proactively reinforcing disciplined financial stewardship, prioritizing resource alignment, and building operational agility to continue supporting our investigators and sustaining high-impact research amid shifting conditions.
Looking ahead, our external engagement remains critically important. As we prepare for upcoming mid-term elections, our advocacy efforts will play a key role in elevating the priorities of VA research, education, and innovation. We are coordinating closely with our partners, including the National Association of Veterans Research and Education Foundations (NAVREF), in preparation for advocacy activities in Washington, D.C. this fall. Keep reading to see how you can participate.
Despite the pace of change, what remains constant is the strength of PAVIR; we are rooted in your dedication, expertise, and engagement. Your commitment to our Veterans and research enables us to navigate uncertainty with clear purpose and hope.
As we move through the summer months, I encourage you to take time to recharge and reflect, while staying connected to the important work ahead. I am grateful for all that you do and optimistic about what we will continue to accomplish together.
Wishing you a restful, energizing summer and a Happy 250th!
Elaine
